Here at The Smile Boutique, we want to rejuvenate your smile and help you get your confidence back.

What are Dentures?

A denture is an artificial replacement for missing teeth and tissues in the mouth, often referred to as false teeth. If you have lost any teeth, it is best to replace them as soon as possible, to avoid your remaining teeth shifting and gums being damaged. Your speech and facial structure can also be affected by the loss of teeth. At The Smile Boutique, we understand how difficult losing teeth can be, and also how you may feel worried or anxious about getting dentures. However, recent advances in technology mean that dentures are more natural and secure than ever, and you can trust us to restore your smile with a set of custom-made dentures.

Dentures are made of hard-wearing material that appears just as natural teeth and gums do,  which give your mouth a natural appearance and fits precisely in your mouth. The set would be easily removable for cleaning. Dentures can replace any number of teeth, from individual teeth to the full set, in either one or both jaws. The type of denture that would be suitable for you would depend on a number of factors, including how many teeth you are missing, and general dental health.

A denture is made from hard-wearing material that mimics the look of teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance. Your denture will be made to fit snugly on your gums and you will be able to remove it for cleaning. They can be made from either acrylic or metal and can contain clips to attach to other teeth where applicable. Acrylic is typically used when a full denture is required to replace the whole row of teeth and is typically held in place by gum suction. Some people choose to use a denture fixative for extra hold and security. Metal dentures are most commonly used for partial dentures and can contain clips to hold them in place by attaching to another tooth.

There are three types of dentures we offer here at The Smile Boutique – Flexible (Valplast), partial and full:

  • Valplast dentures are flexible, which makes them very comfortable & can be used to replace one, two, or multiple teeth.
  • Partial dentures fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and can be supported by your natural teeth with precision attachments.
  • Complete dentures are used to replace all the natural teeth in your upper or bottom jaw. They fit comfortably over your gums, so you can eat and speak with total ease and confidence.

Why consider Custom-made Dentures?

All our dentures are individually crafted to match the distinct features of your real teeth, so you can achieve a realistic and lifelike smile, complete with customised unique characteristics. These characteristics include minor teeth gaps, or slightly stained, but still white, teeth. With unique teeth characteristics, we can eliminate the more unnatural look some traditional dentures have. However, it is still possible to achieve the perfectly straight and white smile of traditional dentures, if that is your desired look. Not only do our custom-made dentures replace missing teeth, but they also improve your quality of life.

Custom-made dentures are also a viable alternative to restore the appearance of your smile if you are unsuitable for dental implants. They can replace your lost teeth, providing both the function and aesthetics of real natural teeth.

How Does the Process work?

A consultation with one of our specialist dentists would be the first step to deciphering which kind of dentures you would require. If any teeth need to be removed prior to the fitting of the denture, then the bone and gums will need to heal before the denture can be made, which can take up to a few months. After this, impressions will be taken of your teeth and a trial denture will be made, after which your permanent dentures will be made by our highly skilled technicians.

Alternative Treatments To Dentures

If you have a single, or few, missing teeth, dentures are one of a few options you have. Dental crowns or bridges can be used to replace missing teeth, and dental implants could be a good choice if you want peace of mind that your dentures will not move or fall out. This is, however, subject to you being a suitable candidate for dental implants.

Aftercare and Maintenance of Dentures

As you age, your gums and jaw will change shape slightly, therefore it is advised that you return to us to review the fit of your dentures, so that any adjustments can be made and we ensure a good fit. Your dentures will need regular cleaning with a toothbrush, as well as your gums underneath so as to avoid gum damage or disease. Your dentures should be kept in a denture-cleansing solution overnight to break down plaque buildup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Of course, dentures will never feel as comfortable as your natural teeth, and thanks to their precise fit, you’ll barely even notice that they’re there once you become accustomed to them.

However, if you do experience some irritation immediately after getting them fitted, this is completely normal and not a cause for concern, and should resolve as you get used to wearing your new dentures.

To relieve any discomfort in the meantime, take over-the-counter pain medication – such as paracetamol or ibuprofen – and remove your dentures whilst you sleep to give your mouth a bit of a break.

If you experience extreme pain or irritation, be sure to make an appointment with our dentists right away so we can get to the bottom of the problem and get it under control.

The cost of dentures in Peterborough varies, depending on the type of dentures you get and whether you decide to just one or both jaws.

We offer three different types of dentures at The Smile Boutique, including:

  • Valpast dentures
  • Partial dentures (1-3 teeth)
  • Complete dentures (upper and lower jaw)

Valpast dentures are our most affordable option – costing just £695 per jaw. Partial dentures start at just £920, and full upper jaw from £2083.

We understand that not everyone is able to pay this kind of money upfront, but we also believe that everybody deserves to be able to achieve their dream smile. This is why we’re proud to offer a range of affordable finance plans.

You could be able to borrow between £350-£25,000 for your dentures treatment, and pay the cost over affordable, interest-free monthly repayments!

For more information about how our finance plans work or for help submitting an application, be sure to get in touch with our friendly reception team.

If you look after your dentures and follow all of the aftercare advice we provide you with, they should last you several years.

However, your gums and jawbone will eventually shrink, which can mean your dentures won’t fit as well as before – becoming loose and worn. So it’s best to have them replaced after around 7-10 years.
