Why might I need minor oral surgery in Peterborough?

There are many reasons why you might need oral surgery, and we often perform procedures on patients who:

  • Have extensive decay on one or more of their teeth
  • Have decayed or infected wisdom teeth
  • Have impacted teeth (especially for orthodontic purposes)
  • Need a cyst or multiple cysts removed from their jaw
  • Have soft tissue lumps and bumps or lesions in the mouth that need further investigation
  • Need to release tongue ties
  • Have gum disease

Is minor oral surgery painful?

Like with any surgery, some of our patients worry that the procedure might be painful.

Whilst even minor oral surgery procedures can be serious and involve multiple parts of your mouth, gums or jaws, it shouldn’t be painful.

All surgeries are performed under local anaesthetic, and sometimes IV sedation to ensure you’re as comfortable as possible during the procedure.

If you’re anxious about your upcoming surgical treatment, or you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact our friendly experts for advice.

How long is minor oral surgery recovery?

For minor oral surgery, performed under local anaesthetic, you’ll be able to leave the clinic and resume your regular, everyday routine. But some slight discomfort is to be expected.

It’ll take most patients around 5-7 days to recover from the procedure, but this depends on the nature of the procedure, patient compliance with post-operative instructions, etc.

Your oral surgeon may also recommend avoiding any strenuous physical activities and that you rest for 24-48 hours before resuming normal activities.

Following the post-operative instructions – about eating, drinking and brushing – is incredibly important to promote healing and ensure the fastest possible recovery.

What minor oral surgical procedures are offered at The Smile Boutique?

At The Smile Boutique, our highly experienced oral surgeons can carry out the following procedures:

  • Surgical removal of buried teeth
