Mild swelling and discomfort are to be expected as the anaesthetic wears off, but this shouldn’t last long and should ease up within a few days post-treatment.
In the meantime, make sure to get plenty of rest and keep your head elevated, using a cold compress to prevent and minimise your swelling, and taking over-the-counter painkillers (such as paracetamol or ibuprofen) to ease discomfort.
Bleeding is also normal during the first 24 hours following your surgery, so don’t be alarmed if you notice this. If the bleeding is heavy and uncontrollable, give us a call as soon as possible.
Whilst it’s important to keep the area clean, you shouldn’t brush or floss your teeth in the first 24 hours after your surgery.
After this point, brush gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush, and rinse with lukewarm saltwater or a suitable anti-bacterial mouthwash.
